Jungle Zipline, Giant Swing and the 2,100-Metre Luge Kart

The experience

Three completely different rides in one day, and one of them exists nowhere else in the country. The luge kart is a purpose-built cart with no engine: it runs on gravity down a 2,100-metre concrete track that snakes through the forest above Pa Pan village, past a tunnel, a Buddha shrine, a windmill curve and nine numbered bends. You steer with the handlebars and brake with three independent disc brakes on the same handle, so the speed is entirely yours to choose. The wheels are air-filled and the carts were redesigned specifically for these slopes. It is the longest and, according to the operator, the only track of its kind in Thailand.

Before the kart comes the zipline circuit: 38 platforms and 21 cables across the valley, with flights of 350 and 400 metres building up to a 900-metre run, plus five sky bridges (one of them 30 metres long), six staircase sections, a tree house and a rope abseil into the forest. Up to two hours of it, and the platforms climb high enough that the views open right out across the Doi Saket ranges.

The third thing is the big giant swing, and it is not a playground swing. You are hoisted up, released, and swing through a full 360 degrees among the branches of a very large tree — a genuine weightless moment at the top of the arc that most people need a minute to recover from. It is included in the price, not an extra.

The site sits above Pa Pan, a forest-conservation village in Thep Sadet on the far side of Doi Saket, out past the hot spring on route 3005. It is further from the city than the Mae Rim courses and it feels it: coffee is grown in the valley, the air is noticeably cooler and cleaner, and the views from the upper platforms run out across the Doi Saket ranges. Six pick-up rounds a day run from 07:00 through to 13:00, each one returning you six hours later, so you can take an early start or make it an afternoon. Lunch is an unlimited Thai buffet served at the restaurant beside the course, with tea and coffee and a view straight out over the Doi Saket mountains. The valley grows some of the better-known coffee in the country, which is worth remembering before you order.

Itinerary

  1. 07:00

    Hotel pick-up in Chiang Mai

Six rounds a day: pick-up windows are 07:00-07:30, 08:00-08:30, 09:00-09:30, 11:00-11:30, 12:00-12:30 and 13:00-13:30, each returning you to your hotel six hours later. The drive heads east and then north past Doi Saket hot spring on route 3005.

  2. 08:15

Arrival at Pa Pan, kit and safety briefing

You are fitted with a Petzl helmet, harness, twin pulleys and lanyards, and the team runs the briefing: the double-lock system, how to hold your body on the cable and what the staff at each station will do. Sport shoes are compulsory from here on.

  3. 08:40

Zipline circuit, first half — cables, bridges and the tree house

The first of the 38 platforms, working up through shorter cables, the 30-metre sky bridge and the tree house, with staircase sections between levels.

  4. 09:30

    The long flights — 350 m, 400 m and 900 m

The cables lengthen across the valley, finishing on the 900-metre run, the longest on the course. Somewhere in here comes the rope abseil descent into the forest.

  5. 10:20

    The big giant swing

Hoisted, released and swung through a full 360 degrees among the branches. Short, intense, and the one everybody talks about on the way home.

  6. 10:50

    The 2,100-metre luge kart

Into the kart, a briefing on the brakes and steering, and then the long descent: 2.1 kilometres of track through the tunnel, past the Buddha spot, round the windmill curve and down through nine numbered bends. Your hand controls the whole thing.

  7. 11:40

Unlimited Thai buffet with a mountain view

Lunch at the restaurant beside the course — an unlimited Thai buffet with tea and coffee and the Doi Saket ranges in front of you.

  8. 12:30

    Return transfer to your hotel

Back to Chiang Mai. Each round drops you six hours after your pick-up window, so the 07:00 round is home by 13:30 and the 13:00 round by 19:30.

Frequently asked questions

It is a low three-wheeled cart with no engine — it runs on gravity alone down a dedicated 2,100-metre track. You steer with the handlebars and you brake by pulling the same handle, which operates three separate disc brakes, so you can slow to walking pace or stop dead whenever you want. The wheels are air-filled and the carts were redesigned specifically for these slopes. There is a briefing first and staff along the route. If you can ride a go-kart you can do this.

Only the luge kart. Both include the same 38-platform zipline circuit, the same 21 cables, the 360-degree giant swing, the abseil, the five sky bridges, the six staircases, the buffet and the transfer. This package adds one run on the 2,100-metre luge track for 200 THB more, which is the best 200 THB in the brochure given that the track is the only one of its kind in Thailand.

Maximum 110 kg per person. Children under four are not recommended. No minimum weight is printed, so if you are booking for a small child tell us their weight and age and we will confirm with the site before you pay.

Sport shoes are compulsory — the brochure lists them as part of the required kit alongside the harness and helmet. Wear comfortable sports clothing; shorts or leggings sit better under a harness than a skirt or loose trousers. Bring a camera, sunscreen and mosquito repellent, all three of which the operator specifically recommends.

Further than the Mae Rim courses — the site is above Pa Pan village in Thep Sadet, out past Doi Saket hot spring on route 3005. The operator runs six pick-up rounds a day and each returns six hours after collection, which gives you a sense of the total commitment: roughly a six-hour block door to door, of which up to two hours is activity and about an hour each way is driving.

The carts have air-filled wheels and three-point disc braking, and staff control the spacing between riders, so light rain is manageable — you simply carry less speed. Heavy rain, thunder or lightning will pause the zipline and the kart until conditions improve. If a whole departure has to be cancelled for weather, we reschedule you or refund in full.

For a confident child over four it is usually the highlight of their trip — staff are stationed at each point rather than one guide leading the group, and the double-lock system means two independent attachment points at all times. For a small or nervous child, the alternative is the companion package, which includes the transfer, the giant swing, the rest area and the buffet without the full circuit.
